ABILENE With the game tied in the bottom of the eighth, Plano’s Lindsay Edwards delivered an RBI single to lift the Wildcats over the Permian Lady Panthers 10-9 in Game 1 of the best-of-3 Class 6A regional semifinal series early Friday morning at Abilene Christian University’s Wells Field.
Permian (33-5) trailed by three runs before tying up the game in the top of the seventh. The game also underwent a two-hour weather delay due to a thunderstorm in the area.
Game 2 takes place at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Permian will be the home team.
The Lady Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Shadie Davis hit a two-run home run.
In the second inning, Plano pushed across five runs on four hits to take a 5-2 lead.
Hunter Harkrider drove in Kelsi McCall on a sacrifice fly to cut Permian’s deficit to two runs in the third inning.
Permian tied up the game in the fourth after an error by the Plano catcher let in two runs.
The Wildcats (24-4) regained the lead with a solo home run by Olivia Gorman in the fourth. Plano then extended its lead to 8-5 in the fifth.
Permian fought back to tie the game in the seventh after Audrey Garcia drove in Rylee Day on a fielder’s choice.
Karisma Aguilar gave the Lady Panthers a 9-8 lead in the top of the eighth with an RBI single.
Unfortunately, Plano was able to deliver the clutch moment in the final inning.
Permian’s Hannah Banker finished 3 for 5 with three singles, while Davis went 1 for 1 with a homer, three walks and two RBIs.
Lady Panthers’ pitcher Alexis Morales threw 118 pitches in 7.2 innings, allowing eight earned runs with five strikeouts.
Plano outhit the Lady Panthers 16-9. Czoey White led the Wildcats, going 3 for 4 with two singles and a double.
