For the first time since 2016, the Permian Lady Panthers softball team is headed to the regional quarterfinals.
The Lady Panthers take on the Abilene High Lady Eagles in a Region I-6A quarterfinal in a best-of-3 series. Game 1 is set for 5 p.m. Friday, while Game 2 is 1 p.m. Saturday. If necessary, Game 3 follows 30 minutes after the second game. All games will be played in Coahoma.
Permian (31-3) is coming off a 7-1 defeat of Keller Timber Creek in Game 3 of the area round Saturday. The Lady Panthers won the first game 13-4 before dropping the second game 8-2.
Abilene (17-12) swept El Paso Coronado in the area round. The Lady Eagles have outscored their playoff opponents 38-6.
