HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Permian rolls past Timber Creek in Game 1 of area round series

ABILENE Behind a dominant offense, the Permian softball team defeated Keller Timber Creek 13-4 in Game 1 of the best-of-3 area round series Thursday evening at Abilene Christian University’s Wells Field.

Game 2 is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday. If necessary, Game 3 is set for 10 a.m. Saturday.

The Lady Panthers (30-2) took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on three hits, highlighted by Hunter Harkrider two-run double.

Permian added another run on an RBI single by Brianna Dominguez in the bottom of the fourth.

Timber Creek finally got on the board in the third on an RBI single by Mady Lohman.

The Falcons cut the deficit to one (4-3) with two more runs in the fourth inning, but Permian regained control in the bottom of the inning, scoring five times to take a 9-3 lead.

The Lady Panthers broke the game open with four more runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by Shadie Davis’ solo home run.

Timber Creek (19-9) had nine hits, while committing five costly errors.

Hannah Banker finished 5 for 5 with three singles, two triples and an RBI to pace Permian’s 14-hit attack. Davis drove in four runs.

Dominguez went 2 for 3 with two singles and an RBI, while Harkrider finished 1 for 4 with a double and four RBIs.

Pitcher Alexis Morales struck out four batters, adding two singles and one RBI at the plate.
