HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Odessa High rallies back twice against Abilene High to advance past area round

WOODROW The Odessa High softball team had to rally back several times Saturday but in the end, the Lady Bronchos found a way to get it done.

A two-run home run from Christabelle Aguirre in the bottom of the eighth inning was the winner as the Lady Bronchos defeated Abilene High 5-4 in Game 3 at Lubbock-Cooper High School.

Odessa High (29-8) won Game 2 7-6 earlier in the day Saturday to force a decisive Game 3.

The Lady Bronchos trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning before a three-run home run by Hailey Prentice put Odessa High ahead.

The Lady Eagles (26-3-1) tied the game in the top of the seventh before Jaiden Franklin tied the game with a solo home run.

Abilene High would march ahead in the eighth after an Alyssa Washington homer.

The Lady Bronchos were able to limit the damage before Aguirre stepped to the plate to deliver the series winner.

In the first game, Odessa High freshman Emily Salgado hit a game-winning three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to erase a three-run deficit to defeat Abilene High 7-6.

The Lady Bronchos trailed 6-3 entering the bottom of the inning after the Lady Eagles had overcome a three-run deficit of their own earlier in the game.

The rally started off with an infield hit by Skylar Herrera that was followed by an Alyssa Deanda walk.

Herrera would come into score off an error by Abilene High off a ground ball that set the stage for Salgado’s game-winning hit.

Odessa High advances to face Midland Lee in the regional quarterfinals. Details of that matchup are still to be determined.
