HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Lady Bronchos fall to Abilene High in extra-innings battle

WOODROW The Odessa High softball team fell in heartbreaking fashion in Game 1 of its area round series, falling 5-4 to Abilene High in 10 innings Friday evening at Lubbock-Cooper High School.
The Lady Bronchos (27-8) took an early lead in the top of the third inning with a solo home run from Skylar Herrera.
Abilene High (26-1-2) answered with three runs in the fourth inning to take the lead and one more in the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead.
The Lady Eagles were led by KK Roberson, who finished 3 for 5 with three runs scored.
Odessa High rallied to tie the game in the sixth, scoring one run off an RBI single from Alyssa Deanda and two more runs came in to score on an error off an Emily Salgado ground ball.
After seven completed innings, the teams had to wait out a 90-minute rain delay before play resumed in the top of the eighth inning.
Neither team could found find the winner until the 10th, when an RBI double by Alyssa Washington drove in Roberson for the winning run.
The series continues at 3 p.m. Saturday with Game 2.
