It was a highly anticipated matchup between two cross-town rivals Tuesday night at the Ratliff Softball Complex.

However, Mother Nature had other plans.

With a strong thunderstorm looming in the distance, the Permian Lady Panthers trailed 3-1 to the Odessa High Lady Bronchos in the top of the third inning when the game was sent into a 30-minute lightning delay.

Permian was threatening to score with one out and runners at second and third.

The lightning was persistent, causing multiple delays until officials decided to postpone the game.

Odessa High scored three runs in the bottom of the second. Noeli Suarez hit a solo home run, while Skylar Herrera drove in two runs on a single to highlight the rally.

The game will resume at 6 p.m. Wednesday from the top of the third inning.
