HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Andrews falls in series opener to Decatur

ABILENE The Andrews softball team could not overcome an early deficit, falling 7-0 to Decatur Thursday in Game 1 of the Class 4A Regional Final at Wells Field.

The Lady Eagles (24-4) got on the board in the top of the first inning with an RBI double from Jaci Tichner. Tichner drove in two more runs in the third with a single and Tristyn Trull added an RBI single in the same inning.

Decatur added three more runs in the seventh to ensure a comfortable lead.

The offense of the Lady Mustangs (32-8) was held in check by Decatur starter Reagan Chism, who struck out 13 over a complete game shutout.

Josslin Pando went 1 for 3 with a double to lead Andrews.

The series continues with Game 2 at 1 p.m. Saturday from Wells Field with Game 3 to follow if Andrews wins.
