Colton Martin, previously at Eden High School, has been hired as the new head boys basketball coach at Rankin High School.

The decision was made during a school board meeting May 23. Martin led Eden to a 28-7 overall record and a Class 1A regional semifinal berth this past season.

Garret Avalos, a 2008 Rankin grad, was promoted to head football coach/athletic director after the departure of Jeff Shelton, who held the same capacity. Avalos served as an assistant football coach last season. He has been teaching in Rankin since 2014.

Shelton left to take a coaching position at Ozona High School.

James Gerick was added to the football staff as the new defensive coordinator. Gerick was previously at Gorman High School.
