GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL GOLF: Andrews leads, Monahans chases as state tournament gets underway

KYLE The Andrews girls golf team is off to a good start in its bid to clinch its ninth consecutive state title after shooting an opening-round 319 at the UIL Class 4A State Golf Championships at Plum Creek Golf Club.

The Lady Mustangs lead by 21 strokes over Lampasas (340) in a crowded field where the second-place and seventh-place teams are separated by a total of 10 strokes.

Monahans is in that mix in seventh place after shooting a 350 to start the tournament.

Andrews’ Alyssa Gerhardt is tied for third in the individual standings with Katie Adelmann of Midlothian Heritage after shooting 76. Senior Ozlyan Juarez leads the Lady Loboes after firing a 78 and sits tied for sixth with Andrews’ Skylar Strube.

Bohyun Park of Carrollton Ranchview shot an opening-round 62 to lead the individual tournament and built a 12-shot lead over Tristan Gabbard of Rosenberg Fulshear.

The final round gets underway at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Both Andrews and Monahans are set to tee off at 9:10 a.m. with the Lady Mustangs starting on No. 1 and the Lady Loboes going off No. 10.
