MARBLE FALLS The Andrews Lady Mustangs claimed their eighth consecutive state golf championship Tuesday, winning the Class 4A girls crown at Horseshoe Bay’s Slick Rock Golf Course.
The Lady Mustangs shot 327 in the second round to finish with a 644 total, 31 shots ahead of runner-up Frisco Lebanon Trail. Andrews, which won its 16th overall state title, matched Booker (1986-93) for most consecutive state championships.
Rachel Huffman (73-80—153) tied for third in the individual standings to lead Andrews. Kinzee McAllister (80-82—162) finished 11th, followed by Skyler Strube (81-82—163) in 12th, while Macy Schulze (83-84—167) and Paige Jennings (84-83—167) tied for 14th.
Playing as a medalist entry, Andrews’ Brynlee Dyas (94-90—184) tied for 38th.
Seminole (357-338—695) finished fourth in the team standings as Alyssa Garcia (81-78—159) tied for ninth individually. Other Maidens finishers were Juliana Klassen (88-80—168) tied for 16th, Jordan Allen (96-87—183) tied for 36th, Mallorie Duncan (92-93—185) in 39th and Amanda Mejorado (102-96—198) tied for 47th.
Two other area golfers posted top-10 finishes as medalist qualifiers. In the Class 3A tournament, played at Grey Rock Golf Course in Austin, Alpine’s Morgan Molsbee shot 89-83—172 to finish seventh. In the Class 2A tournament, played at Austin’s Roy Kizer Golf Course, Sarah Turnbo of Wink shot 84-79—163 to finish tied for eighth.
