BOYS BASKETBALL: Permian, Odessa High face off with District 2-6A lead on the line

The top two boys basketball teams in District 2-6A face off for the second time when the Permian Panthers visit the Odessa High Bronchos at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the OHS Fieldhouse.

Permian (24-3 overall, 6-0 district) comes in all alone atop the 2-6A standings, a game ahead of Odessa High (21-6, 5-1). The Panthers, who won the first meeting 62-44 on Jan. 16, come in ranked No. 17 in Class 6A and have a 16-game winning streak.

“This team has been doing a really good job of focusing,” Permian coach Tim Thomas said. “We’ve got to be geared up and ready to go. Odessa High’s the most potent offensive team in our district and one of the most potent offensive teams we’ve played.”

The Permian and Odessa High girls play at 6 p.m. Permian (11-15, 1-7) and Odessa High (5-22, 0-8) both have been eliminated from playoff contention.
