HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS: Mendez finishes third, Wink sends three to state tournament

ABILENE Compass Academy’s Neena Mendez finished in third place at the Region I-3A Tournament Tuesday at Rose Park Tennis Center.

Mendez won her third-place match by default over Kayla Hicks of Tuscola Jim Ned and will be an alternate to the state tournament.

Lizbeth Hernandez of Reagan County defeated Kate Bryant of Jim Ned to win the title

In Amarillo, three Wink tennis players earned qualifying spots at the Region I-2A Tennis Tournament.

Grabiel Muniz and Myah Torres won the boys doubles title against Thomas Gabehart and Sawyer Stallings of Forsan, while Kate Ramirez won her playback match over Forsan’s Angel McCafferty to earn the second girls singles spot at the state tournament May 20 in College Station.
