ABILENE Neena Mendez of Compass Academy won her first two matches at the Region I-3A Tennis Tournament Monday at the Rose Park Tennis Center.
Mendez defeated Lizbeth Delagdo of Tornillo, 6-2, 6-4, in the opening round followed by a 7-6 (10), 6-2 victory against Bella DeLaRosa of Lamesa in the quarterfinals.
Mendez loss her semifinal match against Kate Bryant of Tuscola Jim Ned, 6-2, 6-0. Mendez will play Kayla Hicks of Jim Ned in the third-place match at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
