HIGH SCHOOL GOLF: Midland Legacy rallies on second day for victory

Midland Legacy came back from a four-shot deficit to post the best score of the second round and win the West Texas Boys Classic Saturday at Ratliff Ranch Golf Links.

The first round was held Friday at the Odessa Country Club.

Midland Legacy carded rounds of 303-283—586 to defeat Wolfforth Frenship (299-293—592), with Amarillo Tascosa finishing third at 302-297—599.

Sophomore Kellen Young and junior Spencer Widner each carded 74-70—144 to lead Midland Legacy and finish in a tie for fourth.

The Rebels began the second round trailing Wolfforth Frienship and Amarillo Tascosa by just a single stroke.

Rylan Montana’s 159 (83-76) led Permian’s top team to a seventh-place tie with San Angelo Central.

Xavier Aguirre paced Permian’s second team to a 17th-place showing.

Odessa High finish in 10th as the trio of Adan Vasquez, Robert Murray and EJ Rodriguez finished at 162, 163 and 164, respectively.

All three lowered their scores on Saturday, with Murray’s 76 on day two compared to his 87 on day one being the biggest jump out of the Bronchos’ golfers.
