HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Crane finishes unbeaten in pool play at 7 on 7 state tournament

COLLEGE STATION Crane led the way for the Permian Basin teams competing at the Division III State 7 on 7 Tournament Thursday at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex.

The Golden Cranes went 3-0 in Pool D to finish as the top seed, defeating Archer City 24-18, Tidehaven 26-8 and Rosebud-Lott 24-6.

Both Alpine and Wink finished 1-2 in their respective pools. Both teams lost the first two games before earning a victory to close out pool play.

Alpine fell 18-8 and 14-6 to Lexington and Tolar, respectively, while defeating Waskom 13-7 in Pool C.

Wink was defeated 20-19 by Franklin and 48-41 by Dublin before defeating Collinsville 31-19.

All three teams move on to the championship bracket with play beginning at 8 a.m. Friday.
