ABILENE The Permian Panthers face Keller Central in a Class 6A area playoff at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Abilene Cooper’s Cougar Gymnasium.

The 16th-ranked Panthers (29-3) defeated El Paso Coronado 56-38 in bi-district on Tuesday to extend its winning streak to 21 games. Keller Central (25-10) advanced with a 55-48 victory over Fort Worth Paschal.

The winner moves to the regional quarterfinals against the winner of the El Paso Americas-Arlington Bowie area playoff. Permian is in the second round for the fourth time in six years, but the Panthers have not advanced beyond area since 1998, when they reached the Region I-5A tournament.
