WICHITA FALLS The UTPB women’s basketball team raced out to a comfortable lead after the first quarter, only to watch host Midwestern State chip away the rest of the game, force overtime and find a way to win, 72-67, in Lone Star Conference action Thursday evening at the D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
Sierra LaGrande scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Falcons (6-17 overall, 4-11 in conference), with Khali Pippins-Tryon adding 20 points in the loss.
Micheline Mercelita scored 17 points and Liz Cathcart added 14 to lead the Mustangs (12-9, 9-6).
UTPB led, 21-8, after the first 10 minutes, but Midwestern State tied the game, 47-47, by the end of the third quarter, then pulled away in the extra period.
