MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Francis, Allen come up big in final minute as No. 13 UTPB survives against Midwestern State

WICHITA FALLS Daeshon Francis’ three-point play, along with a pair of free throws by Sammy Allen, lifted the UTPB men’s basketball team to a 79-76 victory against Midwestern State in Lone Star Conference play Friday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

Josh Morris led the Falcons (19-3 overall, 11-2 in conference) with game-high 27 points, with Francis added 24 and Allen 12 in the victory. Allen also had a game-high 12 rebounds, including the final one of the game off a missed shot by the Mustangs after which he was fouled with 10 seconds remaining to play in the game. UTPB trailed 76-74 with less than 30 seconds left when Francis scored on a lay-up to tie it, then knocked down his free throw from the foul on the play to put UTPB in front.

Brandon Neel scored 24 points to lead Midwestern State (9-15, 5-9), with Trey Kennedy adding 19 and Logan Hicks 11 in the loss.
