CANYON The UTPB men’s basketball team was stunned early, but never stopped working hard, overcoming the loss of Josh Morris and Zeldric King, along with a few missed shots to defeat Regis University 130-124 in four overtimes Sunday at First United Bank Center.

The Falcons (26-6) erased the Rangers’ 20-point second-half lead to force the first overtime and had chances to win the game at the end of each subsequent period.

UTPB’s Daeshon Francis set a First United Bank Center record with a game-high 43 points. Sammy Allen recorded his second triple-double of the season with 19 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists, with James McPherson adding 19 points in the victory. Every Falcon who played more than two minutes had at least 11 points.

Francis finished 18-of-19 from the free-throw line, while McPherson hit four of UTPB’s five 3-pointers in the game.

Regis (27-6) hit 11 of its first 12 shots and made 10-16 from 3-point range in the first half. Jarrett Brodbeck led the Rangers with 34 points, including 10 3-pointers.

UTPB advances to the championship game where it will face host West Texas A&M at 7 p.m. Tuesday. It will be the fourth meeting of the season between the teams, with the Buffaloes edging the Falcons 80-76 to win the Lone Star Conference championship game on March 4 in Frisco.
