Fort Hays State shutout the UTPB baseball team, 6-0, in the season opener for both teams Friday at Roden Field.
Tanner Smith earned the victory for Fort Hays State, allowing one hit over six innings, with nine strikeouts. Austin Weiser pitched the final three innings, striking out four, to earn the save.
Dalton Drury and Tylor Frailey both doubled for the Falcons.
The teams meet again at 2 p.m. today at Roden Field.
