COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: Lady Wranglers hire Acevedo-Rios

Dayana Acevedo-Rios has been hired to lead the Odessa College volleyball team the school announced Tuesday.

She replaces Kristi Gray, who was named the head coach of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Gray led the Lady Wranglers to a sixth-place finish at the NJCAA Division I National Championships earlier this year.

Acevedo-Rios was the assistant coach at Iowa Western Community College from 2016 until 2021.

She helped guide Iowa Western to top five finishes at the NJCAA national tournament in 2016 (second), 2018 (third), 2019 (fifth) and 2021 (champion).

It is a return to West Texas for Acevedo-Rios, who played at Iowa Western before finishing her academic and athletic career at UTEP.
