UTPB kicker Rafael Vargas was named to this week’s Lone Star Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
The senior averaged 44 yards on punts, made a 31-yard field goal and handled kickoff duties to help fuel a 27-3 win against Midwestern State this past Saturday in Wichita Falls.
Vargas pinned one of his punts inside the 20-yard line.
His field goal was the only score in the fourth quarter and he added an extra-point in the third quarter.
Texas A&M-Kingsville quarterback Teague Sedtal was named the conference Offensive Player of the Week after going 17-of-25 passing for 230 yards and four touchdowns in the Javelinas’ 56-21 win against Sul Ross State.
Central Washington defensive end Chase Loidhamer was named the conference Defensive Player of the Week after posting three sacks and four tackles for loss of 27 yards to lead a unit that allowed just 91 yards of offense in a shutout of Western New Mexico.
