COLLEGE FOOTBALL: UTPB has record-breaking night in 75-0 win over Lincoln

A record-breaking performance was in the cards for the UTPB football team in its final nonconference game of the season, against Lincoln (Calif.) Saturday at Ratliff Stadium.

The Falcons set a new single-game scoring mark after defeating the Oaklanders 75-0, moving their undefeated streak against Division II opponents to 10 games.

The previous single-game mark for UTPB was 70 against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Nov. 16, 2019.

UTPB head coach Justin Carrigan said despite the record, he knows his team has things to fix before facing the rest of its schedule.

“The biggest thing is getting focused on what we could control,” Carrigan said. “We’ve got to get better, there’s a lot of things we didn’t do well tonight.”

UTPB would score early and often against Lincoln, a program based out of Oakland, Calif., that is playing its first collegiate football season.

Jayvon Davis put the Falcons on the board almost as soon as the game kicked off, returning the opening kick 99 yards to the end zone to put UTPB up 7-0.

Just as quick as the special teams play, the Falcon defense showed off its speed in getting to the opposing quarterback when a JT Walker sack on Isaiah Rios resulted in a safety benefitting UTPB.

The Falcons closed out the productive first quarter by scoring 14 more points, with Clayton Roberts connecting on a 44-yard touchdown pass to MJ Link before Davis found the end zone again with a 28-yard rushing score.

The only score in the second quarter came when Roberts found Kobe Robinson with a 14-yard touchdown pass to put the Falcons up 30-0 by the intermission.

After the break, the Falcons would score 45 points to tune up before heading into some tough conference tilts.

“The most important thing for us is to figure out where we can get better at,” Carrigan said.

UTPB turns its attention to Lone Star Conference play starting with a matchup against Angelo State at 6 p.m. next Saturday in San Angelo.

Davis led the Falcons with 98 rushing yards, while Roberts threw for 116 yards and two scores.
