COLLEGE BASEBALL: Wranglers drop Region V opener

SAN ANGELO Grayson College scored two runs on a bases-loaded error Friday to defeat Odessa College 3-1 in the first round of the NJCAA Region V baseball tournament at Foster Field.
The Wranglers (35-21) face Hill College at 1 p.m. Saturday in an elimination game. Grayson College (42-12) will meet New Mexico Junior College at 8 p.m. Saturday in a winners-bracket game.
Riley McKinney and Brandon Talley each went 2 for 3 to lead Grayson.
The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the first with two walks, a wild pitch and Cordell Dunn’s sacrifice fly.
Odessa College tied it on Ivan Melendez’s home run with two outs in the fourth, but Grayson College took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning.
Two walks sandwiched around Omar Cervantez’s single loaded the bases and McKinney reached on an error that allowed two runs to score.
Grayson College’s Braden Carmichael struck out 12 in pitching a complete game for the win. He held the Wranglers to four hits.
Chandler Arnold was charged with one earned run on three hits over 4.2 innings in taking the loss. He walked four, two of which scored, and struck out five.
