COLLEGE BASEBALL: Cameron blanks UTPB is conference tourney

CANYON The UTPB baseball team saw its season end Thursday with a 9-0 loss to Cameron in the opening game of the Lone Star Conference Tournament at Wilder Park.

The Aggies jumped on UTPB starter Alex Rivera early and led 8-0 after three innings. Rivera (1-7) was charged with six runs, three earned, on five hits over 1.2 innings.

Cameron’s Pierce Khan was 4 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, while Myles Miller went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

UTPB’s Tylor Frailey went 2 for 4 and Tyler Vlaskek was 2 for 3 as the Falcons (20-28) totaled seven hits.

Cameron’s Gaige Vines (6-2) worked 8.1 shutout innings, scattering six hits while striking out six.

The Aggies (22-29) advance to the semifinals to take on top seed Angelo State (42-8) at 3 p.m. Friday.

The Falcons made an 11-game improvement over 2018, finishing six games better in conference play.
