TEXAS LEAGUE BASEBALL: Hooks hammer 'Hounds in series opener

CORPUS CHRISTI Corpus Christi’s Yohan Ramirez pitched five no-hit innings and four Hooks hit home runs Thursday in a 22-5 victory against Midland in the opener of their Texas League series at Whataburger Field.

Ramirez (1-2) struck out 10, but walked six. Four of the walks came in the third inning to force in a run.

The RockHounds, who finished with two hits, added another run without a hit in the sixth inning on two walks and two wild pitches. Midland’s hits came in a three-run seventh, when Tyler Ramirez singled to load the bases after two hit batters and Edwin Diaz tripled.

Meanwhile, every player in the Hooks lineup had at least one hit, one RBI and one run scored.

Colton Shaver, who put Corpus Christi in front to stay with a three-run homer in the second, finished 3 for 5 with five RBIs. Chuckie Robinson, who added a three-run homer in the five-run fourth, was 3 for 5 with four RBIs. Seth Beer, who was 5 for 6, homered to lead off the sixth and Ronnie Dawson homered leading off an eight-run eighth.

Abraham Toro was also 3 for 5 with a double and a triple and joined Dawson, Beer and Lorenzo Quintana in driving in two runs. Osvaldo Duarte added three RBIs.

Midland starter Matt Milburn (5-5) was charged with 13 runs on 13 hits over four innings. He struck out three.
