MIDLAND Kyle Lloyd pitched seven solid innings and Brad Zunica homered and drove in two runs Wednesday as Amarillo avoided a series sweep with a 4-1 victory against Midland in Texas League action at Security Bank Ballpark.

The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the RockHounds, who still hold a three-game lead in the South Division.

Lloyd (3-5) struck out eight while holding Midland to an unearned run on three hits. He retired the first 12 batters he faced before issuing his only walk to Taylor Motter to lead off the fifth.

Amarillo’s Evan Miller worked two perfect innings, striking out four, to earn his first save.

Midland starter Grant Holmes (3-2) allowed a run on three hits over four innings in taking the loss. He struck out six.

Zunica, who was 3 for 4, was the first batter for either team to reach base when he led off the third with his 12th home run of the season. Zunica added an RBI single in the fifth after Taylor Kohlwey led off with a walk and stole second.

Hudson Potts doubled in a run in the seventh to push Amarillo’s lead to 3-0 before Motter singled in a run to put the RockHounds on the board in the bottom of the inning. Amarillo’s Ivan Castillo singled in a run in the eighth.

Midland hits the road for a four-game series at Corpus Christi before returning to Security Bank Ballpark on Monday for another three-game set against Amarillo.
