ANDREWS Brock Thompson kicked a 31-yard field goal with two seconds remaining as the Pirates held off the Mustangs in nondistrict play Friday at the Mustang Bowl.

Down 49-28 with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter, Andrews rallied to score three touchdowns in a span of two minutes, 19 seconds.

Quarterback Brett Leach led the way for the Mustangs, going 28-for-52 for 492 yards and four touchdown passes and running for two more.

Markeese Lawrence was the leading receiver for Andrews, catching six passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns.

Tyler Hairston carried the ball 17 times for 106 yards and two touchdowns for the Pirates, adding a touchdown reception as well.

PECOS The Eagles scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to erase an 11-point deficit defeat the Mustangs Friday at Rotary Field. 

Jayson Orona’s 29-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Aguilar with 8:03 remaining to play in the game was enough to clinch the nondistrict victory in the season opener for both teams.

IRAAN Mario De Luna rushed for 113 yards off 21 carries and a touchdown in the Braves’ season-opening win over the Golden Cranes in a nondistrict game Friday at Brave Stadium.

Iraan quarterback Brodey Myers rushed 1- carries for 54 yards and one touchdown, while adding another score through the air.

Kyler Miller also found the end zone for the Braves, returning a first-quarter interception for a touchdown to give Iraan at 14-0 lead after one quarter.
