HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY: Odessa High girls, Andrews boys take home titles in Lubbock

LUBBOCK The Odessa High girls and the Andrews boys cross country teams took home titles at the PRE-Lubbock ISD Coaches Classic Saturday at Mae Simmons Park.

Odessa High’s Kayla Mendoza finished in second place in the Division I race in 19 minutes, 56.01 seconds to pace the Lady Bronchos. Lubbock Cooper’s Cammy Jenkins (19:18.52) won the race, with Kelse Valdez of Plainvew taking third in 20:19.03

Odessa High’s Nathalia Escontrias (20:34.58) came in fourth and Alyssa Moreno (20:40.42) of Lubbock Cooper rounded out the top five.

The Lady Bronchos (38 points) finished just ahead of second place Plainview (44) and third place Lubbock Cooper (56) as Odessa High had eight runners place in the top 20.

On the boys’ side, Andrews (67 points) finished just ahead of Canyon (73) and Lubbock Monterey (151) while the Odessa High boys finished fourth (160).

Odessa High’s Adrian Lujan (16:09.41) finished second behind Canyon’s Samuel Ashley (16:00.27), while Andrews’ Jasson Marquez (16:23.37) finished fifth.  

In the Division II two-mile girls’ race, Andrews finished in second place (74 points) behind Canyon (15) and ahead of Sundown (108). Elizabeth Garcia (12:27.55) and Samantha Jasso (12:31.72)   finished in seventh and eighth respectively. Canyon’s Breanna Stuart (11:49.97) won the race as four of the top five finishers came from the Lady Eagles.
