IDALOU WILDCATS AT SEMINOLE INDIANS

>> Last Week: Shallowater defeated Idalou, 21-8; Seminole defeated Lubbock High, 21-7

>> Last Season: Seminole 36, Idalou 10

>> Notes: Seminole rolled in Week 1. This game shouldn’t be any different. The Indians had a balanced rushing attack, and if they stay consisent it should be a repeat performance.

 

MONAHANS LOBOES AT ANDREWS MUSTANGS

>> Time, Date, Place: 7 tonight, Mustang Bowl

>> Records: Monahans 1-0; Andrews 0-1

>> Last Week: Monahans defeated Clint, 27-26; Lubbock-Cooper defeated Andrews, 52-50

>> Broadcast:  AM-1360/FM-105.5 (Andrews) kactradio.com; FM-98.3 (Monahans)

>> Last Season: Monahans 41, Andrews 37

>> Notes: This will be a tale of two different offenses. It’ll be the run-heavy offense of the Loboes led by QB J.T. Pittman against the high-octane spread offense of the Mustangs, led by QB Brett Leach. This could be a shootout if both teams come out firing on all cylinders. Monahans is 7-5 against Andrews since 2004.

 

HEREFORD WHITEFACES VS. GREENWOOD RANGERS

>> Time, Date, Place: 7 tonight, J.M. King Memorial Stadium

>> Records: Hereford 0-1; Greenwood 1-0

>> Last Week: Amarillo Caprock defeated Hereford, 28-20; Greenwood defeated Big Spring, 21-12

>> Broadcast:  towntalkradio.com/greenwood-sports-radio

>> Notes: This should be a competitive game for the Greenwood Rangers. It will be a battle in the trenches between both offensive lines. Greenwood is led by RB Ryan Snodgrass while Hereford has RB Cody Dixon who rushed for 184 yards on 33 carries with two scores last week.

 

FORT STOCKTON PANTHERS AT ALPINE FIGHTIN' BUCKS

>> Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Buck Stadium

>> Records: Fort Stockton 1-0; Alpine 1-0

>> Last Week: Fort Stockton defeated Kermit, 33-0; Alpine defeated Tornillo, 49-2

>> Broadcast:  AM-1240 (Alpine); AM-860/FM-94.3 (Fort Stockton); kfstradio.com

>> Notes: The Panthers seem to be a much improved team, but this week they’ll face a tough Class 3A opponent on the road. Alpine is looking to stay consistent on offense behind QB Tyler Estrada. Fort Stockton hasn’t met Alpine since 2015.

 

PECOS EAGLES AT KERMIT YELLOW JACKETS

>> Records: Pecos 1-0; Kermit 0-1

>> Last Week: Pecos defeated Denver City, 27-26; Fort Stockton defeated Kermit, 33-0

>> Broadcast:  AM-1400 (Pecos); 98xfm.com (Kermit)

>> Last Season: Pecos 23, Kermit 21

>> Notes: Pecos is 9-4 against Kermit since 2004. The young Eagles have a lot of confidence after their Week 1 win. Kermit will put up a fight with QB Arturo Gonzalez leading its offense.

 

TORNILLO COYOTES VS. VAN HORN EAGLES

>> Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Eagle Stadium

>> Records: Tornillo 0-1; Van Horn 0-1

>> Last Week: Alpine defeated Tornillo, 49-2; Fabens defeated Van Horn, 49-12

>> Last Season: Van Horn 32, Tornillo 18

>> Notes: Van Horn has had a lot of success against Tornillo, going 12-1 in the series since 2004. This could be a big confidence booster for the Eagles.

 

CRANE GOLDEN GRAVES VS. COLORADO CITY WOLVES

>> Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Wolf Stadium

>> Records: Crane 0-1; Colorado City 1-0

>> Last Week: Iraan defeated Crane, 27-7; Colorado City defeated Albany, 32-13

>> Last Season: Colorado City 8, Crane 2

>> Notes: The Wolves are led by QB Markis Monroe, who tallied 233 passing yards and four touchdowns in Week 1. Crane will have to come out revitalized if it wants to compete in this game.

 

IRAAN BRAVES VS. OZONA LIONS

>> Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Lion Stadium

>> Records: Iraan 1-0; Ozona 0-1

>> Last Week: Iraan defeated Crane, 27-7; Sonora defeated Ozona, 34-19

>> Last Season: Iraan 40, Ozona 19

>> Notes: This should be a good test for Iraan. The Braves were led by RB Mario De Luna last week, who rushed for 113 yards on 21 carries. Ozona’s offense is led by RB Abraham Rodriguez who rushed for 120 yards on 13 carries in Week 1. The Braves are 8-4 against Ozona since 2006.

 

MCCAMEY BADGERS VS. COAHOMA BULLDOGS

>> Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Bulldog Stadium

>> Records: McCamey 1-0; Coahoma 1-0

>> Last Week: McCamey defeated Irion County, 58-0; Coahoma defeated Forsan, 24-14

>> Last Season: McCamey 46, Coahoma 26

>> Notes: It could be a big test for the Badgers. The big key for McCamey is slowing down Coahoma RB Zack Schneider who ran for 192 yards with three touchdowns on 29 carries in Week 1. This has the makings of being a classic shootout.

 

WINK WILDCATS VS. STANTON BUFFALOES

>> Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Buffalo Stadium

>> Records: Wink 0-1; Stanton 0-1

>> Last Week: Sundown defeated Wink, 54-19; Reagan County defeated Stanton, 51-14

>> Last Season: Wink 44, Stanton 14

>> Notes: Wink is looking to get back on track after a tough Week 1 loss. This could be the game that Wink needs to boost their confidence. The Wildcats are led by dual-threat QB’s Jervicion Rodgers and Nick Gray, along with WR Wade Halterman.

 

BARKSDALE NUECES PANTHERS AT BALMORHEA BEARS

>> Time, Date, Place: 6:30 tonight, Bear Stadium

>> Records: Barksdale Nueces 0-1; Balmorhea 1-0

>> Last Week: Veribest defeated Barksdale Nueces, 65-20; Balmorhea defeated Sands, 50-0

>> Notes: If the Bears can come out firing on all cylinders then this game could get ugly quick. Balmorhea should keep on rolling.

 

LAMESA KLONDIKE COUGARS VS. RANKIN RED DEVILS

>> Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, Red Devil Stadium

>> Records: Klondike 1-0; Rankin 1-0

>> Last Week: Klondike defeated Westbrook, 52-28; Rankin defeated Lubbock Homeschool, 60-8

>> Broadcast:  Red Devil Radio (Rankin)

>> Notes: Garret Avalos and his Red Devils are riding high after their Week 1 victory. This should be a solid test for Rankin.

 

SANDERSON EAGLES AT MARFA SHORTHORNS

>> Time, Date, Place: 6:30 tonight, Martin Field

>> Records: Sanderson 1-0; Marfa 0-1

>> Last Week: Sanderson defeated Fort Hancock, 61-6; Sierra Blanca defeated Marfa, 58-7

>> Last Season: Marfa 85, Sanderson 67

>> Notes: On paper, the Shorthorns have had tons of success against Sanderson. This year, the outcome could be different. Depending on how Marfa executes, it could be a competitive showing for the Shorthorns during their home opener.

 

BUENA VISTA LONGHORNS AT STERLING CITY EAGLES

>> Records: Buena Vista 1-0; Sterling City 1-0

>> Last Week: Buena Vista defeated West Texas Homeschool, 61-7; Sterling City defeated Tribe Consolidated, 28-24

>> Last Season: Buena Vista 30, Sterling City 28

>> Notes: The Longhorns have a lot of confidence after their dominating Week 1 victory. This could be a good test for Buena Vista.

 

WEST TEXAS HOMESCHOOL AT GRANDFALLS-ROYALTY COWBOYS

>> Time, Date, Place: 7:30 tonight, John S. White Stadium

>> Records: West Texas Homeschool 0-1; Grandfalls-Royalty 1-0

>> Last Week: Buena Vista defeated West Texas Homeschool, 61-7; Grandfalls-Royalty defeated Loraine, 57-12

>> Last Season: Grandfalls-Royalty 66, West Texas Homeschool 18

>> Notes: The Oilers were held to 41 total yards of offense in Week 1. Unfortunately, it’s only going to get tougher for West Texas Homeschool. The Cowboys could end this game in a by halftime.
