GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL GOLF: Van Horn's Corralez gets going at state tournament

AUSTIN Van Horn golfer Annika Corralez sits tied for 23rd place after shooting an opening-round 93 Monday at the UIL Class 2A state golf tournament at Roy Kizer Golf Club.

The junior is tied with Jaclyn Biggerstaff of Christoval, who also qualified as an individual out of Region I-2A.

Mia Nixon of Martin’s Mill (70) leads by five strokes over Region I champion Katelin Berry of Stratford.

Grapeland (334) leads the team standings by one stroke over Martin’s Mill (335). Region I qualifiers Vega (372) and Stratford (373) are fourth and tied for fifth, respectively, while Haskell (395) is eighth.

Corralez will start the final round at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday off the No. 1 tee with Biggerstaff and Gracee Hilburn of Meridian.
