SNYDER The Odessa High baseball team swept the two first games of the weekend at the Best of the West Tournament, defeating Andrews 5-4 in the first game and Shallowater 15-8 in six-inning games at Moffett Field.

In Game 1, the Bronchos rallied from a three-run deficit with three runs in the fifth inning to tie the game. After Andrews retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning, Odessa High snagged the lead back in the top of the sixth inning.

Cristian Baeza hit a single to center field to tie the game and scored the go-ahead run on Jordan Munoz’s double. Baeza also recorded the final two outs to earn the save.

Baeza’s standout afternoon continued in the second game against Shallowater as he finished 4 for 5 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.

There was plenty of offense early in the second game as Odessa High led the Mustangs 9-8 after three innings. The Bronchos got some separation with six runs in the top of the sixth.

Odessa High continues tournament play at 9 a.m. Friday against Seminole.
