The Odessa High boys soccer team capped off its regular season in a big way with a 6-1 victory over Midland Lee on Tuesday evening at Grande Communications Stadium to clinch the outright District 2-6A title.

The Bronchos raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first half thanks to goals from Nana Prempeh, Kobe Ross and Brandon Bernal.

In the second half, Esau Soto scored the lone goal of the game for the Rebels in the 53rd minute before Bernal added his second goal of the game less than two minutes later.

Mark Diaz and Alan Rubio each added goals for Odessa High late in the second half to cap off the scoring.

“I’m just proud of our team,” Odessa High head coach Eliseo Ortiz said. “It’s not easy to win a district championship with a lot of good teams in our district.

“Every game was tough for us and it wasn’t easy. I’m proud that we fought through a lot of challenges to finish the district season undefeated.”

“It feels great to be able to call ourselves district champions,” Ross said. “Coach Ortiz really harped on us to stay focused to win this game and that’s what we were able to do.”

Odessa High qualified as the No. 1 seed from District 2-6A and will face El Paso Americas in the bi-district round, while Midland Lee will be the No. 4 seed and will play El Paso Socorro when the Class 6A playoffs begin next week.

The dates and times for both of those games have yet to be determined.
