CORPUS CHRISTI Lorenzo Quintana hit a game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning for his second home run of the game as the Corpus Christi Hooks rallied to defeat the Midland RockHounds 6-2 Sunday in Texas League action.

Quintana entered the game in the sixth inning as a defensive replacement to starting catcher Chuckie Robinson, who was ejected from the game.

Both teams remained scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when Midland (44-42) got on the board first with an RBI single from Nate Mondou, who finished 2 for 4.

The RockHounds added a second run in the eighth inning with an Edwin Diaz sacrifice fly.

The Hooks (41-45) rallied to tie the game in bottom of the frame as Quintana led off with a home run and Ronnie Dawson hit a two-out game-tying homer of his own.

The RockHounds did not record an out in the ninth inning after J.J. Matijevic was hit by a pitch and Granden Goetzmann and Stephen Wrenn each hit singles to set up Quintana’s slam to end the game.

Riley Ferrell (1-0) earned the win after not allowing a hit in the ninth inning for Corpus Christi while John Gorman (4-5) took the loss for Midland.

The RockHounds return home for a seven-game home stand starting Monday at 6:30 p.m. against Amarillo at Security Bank Ballpark.
