AMARILLO Permian’s Joshua Garcia has been running at the front of the pack all season and he continued that trend by winning the individual title at the District 2-6A Championships Thursday at Thompson Park.

Garcia covered the five-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 59.49 seconds, outsprinting Amarillo Tascosa’s Kaden McMurry (17:05.28) for the top spot. Joseph Clarke of Amarillo Tascosa (17:18.35), Odessa High’s Adrian Lujan (17:21.83) and Permian’s Oscar Sotelo (17:26.17) rounded out the top five.

Amarillo Tascosa won the team title with 28 points, with Permian (39) and Wolfforth Frenship (79) finished second and third, respectively.

All three schools, along with the top 10 individuals, advance to the Region I-6A Championships on Oct. 22 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.
