Pro baseball: Appert, relievers help 'Hounds win

CORPUS CHRISTI Luke Appert hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to help the Midland RockHounds beat the Corpus Christi 5-4 in a Texas League baseball game on Sunday.

Appert’s flyball followed a double by David Castillo and a single by Cliff Pennington to begin the seventh inning.

Midland relievers Brad Kilby, Jerry Blevins and David Shafer helped protect the lead. Shafer finished for his sixth save.

Myron Leslie had a run-scoring double and Eduar-do Cornejo had a two-run single in a three-run sixth that put Midland ahead 4-3.

Edwin Maysonet hit a solo home run in the sixth to get Corpus Christi even at 4-4.
