>> Alpine Museum of the Big Bend has scheduled “La Perspectiva De Luna,” an exhibit by artist Elizabeth Luna, can be seen from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the museum at Sul Ross University in Lawrence Hall, Alpine.

>> The White-Pool House Museum will display the exhibit “Miniature Sewing Machines” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Saturday at the museum, 112 E. Murphy St.

Admission is free, but donations are accepted. Call 333-4072.

>> CARLSBAD, N.M. Carlsbad Museum and Art Center has scheduled an exhibit featuring works by New Mexico and West Texas artists from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday at the museum, 418 W. Fox St.

>> Midland The Midland Arts Association Spring Juried Arts Exhibition will have an opening reception from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Museum of the Southwest, 1705 W. Missouri Ave.

Cash awards of $4,000 will be presented at the reception at 8 p.m.

The exhibit can be seen from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday through April 1.

The Juror, Bettye Hicks, will give a special talk regarding how to get representation by a gallery at 10 a.m. March 3 at the Palette Club, 907 W. Wadley Ave.

The talk will be free and open to the public.

>> The Grover E. and Sally M. Murray Protea Paintings Collection can be seen from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through March 11 at UTPB’s Nancy Fyfe Cardozier Gallery, 4901 E. University Blvd.

>> Midland The Museum of the Southwest has exhibits on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the museum, 1705 W. Missouri Ave.

“Miniature Worlds: Art from India,” an exhibit of watercolors, drawings and sculpture spanning 400 years of Indian history can be seen through March 16.

The first Friday of each month, the museum holds a film series from noon to 1 p.m. Beverages are provided. Participants are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch.

Salsa dance classes

Mondays: 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., beginner level; 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., beginner/intermediate with Enrique Romero. For the beginner/intermediate class, students must know basic, right turn and cross body lead.

Fridays: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with Richard Ortiz.

Each class fee is $10 per person.

Ortiz also offers a free class from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays at Club Arriba in Midland.

>> A “Day of Dance” presented by the Love To Dance Studio is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. March 10 at two different locations.

Fundamentals of Belly Dance will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at the studio location, 2817 JBS Parkway Suite E-1.

Swing and jitterbug will continue at 11:30 a.m., two-step at 1 p.m., Salsa at 2 p.m., Cumbia Pegadas at 3 p.m. and Bachata at 4 p.m. at the PAL Gym at Floyd Gwin Park, corner of 10th Street and West County Road.

Showcase performances will begin at 5:30 p.m. and a social dance will follow at the PAL Gym.

The local 2007 Texas DanceSport Challenge Competitors Ray Reynosa and Eva Mills will perform their waltz, tango and foxtrot showcases that they will display at the State competition March 31 in Houston.

Workshop classes will be presented by studio instructors Andrea Mauldin, Ray and Ronnie Reynosa, Cherie Johnson, Enrique Romero, Jorge Mancha and Richard Ortiz.

A special guest performance will be presented by international ballroom and Latin dancers Shawn and Kate Mercadal of San Angelo. They will display jive, rumba and cha cha.

Studio team member performances include The Midland Belly Dance Troupe “Storm Troupers,” Billie Sartain, Mauldin, Jasmine Ward and Tammy Yeargain; Romero and Connie Rubio, salsa; Ortiz and Daniela Solis, cha cha; Ortiz, Gabriel Ortiz, Lewis Juarez and Toni Ortega, salsa shines; Mancha and Andromeda Hall, cumbia pegadas; and the Reynosa’s, Argentine tango.

Music entertainment will be presented by Artistic DJ Manuel Balderas.

Workshop fee is $10 for first class and $5 for each class thereafter per student. Fee includes showcase performances and dance admission.

Admission for showcase performances and social dance (nonworkshop students) is $5 per person.

Funds raised will go to TDSC competition expenses.
