Raising money for motorbikes

Fuddruckers in Music City Mall is hosting a fundraiser for Sozo Ministries on Monday, as the missionary organization works to raise money to buy motorbikes for pastors traveling in remote areas in southeast Uganda.

Sozo Ministries was co-founded by Scott Ingram, from Crane.

From 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday, customers at Fuddruckers are encouraged to mention Sozo Ministries by name at checkout, for 15 percent of the meal price to go to the organization.

Sozo Ministries works to equip and empower locals in East Africa to grow churches in the region, and Liz Ingram, Scott’s wife and a fellow missionary, said the motorbikes they’re hoping to buy would help do just that.

“It’s definitely something that will help their churches grow, and help them step out with more boldness to love others and to change their communities better,” she said.

Liz Ingram said she and her husband spent six months in Uganda last year, and plans to move there full-time this summer.

There, she said, while the larger towns have paved roads, travel can be difficult for the ministry’s affiliated local pastors who are working to connect with more remote villages.

“These guys are going out to villages on dirt roads. … Some of them, it takes them about four hours on public transportation,” she said.

“They’re working really hard, so we’re really trying to help them out with motorbikes, not just bicycles.”

Fuddruckers’ fundraiser Monday will apply for both dine-in and carry-out orders.
