Movies in the Park begins today with ‘Incredibles 2’

For the past several years, Odessa Parks and Recreation have hosted Movies in the Park on various Saturday nights throughout late spring into the summer.

However, Movies in the Park will transition to Friday nights this year.

Movies in the Park is scheduled to begin Friday at Sherwood Park and the first movie to be shown is Incredibles 2.

“We are hoping it does work out better on Friday nights,” said Cori Branscum, Odessa Parks and Recreation events coordinator. “People won’t have to plan their whole day around it. It can be an after work type of thing.”

Movies are free to the public and will start when it gets dark.

Sunset for Friday is 8:31 p.m., timeanddate.com states.

The temperate when the movie begins is expected to be about 67 degrees Fahrenheit, weather.com details.

Movies in the Park is scheduled every other week until Aug. 9 at Sherwood Park. All eight movies are rated PG.

The next seven movies are Ralph Breaks the Internet, May 17, at McKinney Park; Christopher Robin, May 31, at UTPB Park; Sergeant Stubby, June 14, at Floyd Gwin Park; The House with a Clock in Its Walls, June 28, at Jim Parker Park; Small Foot, July 12, at San Jacinto Park; The LEGO Movie 2, July 26, at Lawndale Park; and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, Aug. 9, at Sherwood Park.

The latest any of the eight movies will start is 8:59 p.m. on June 28, timeanddate.com states.

In previous years, Movies in the Park showed Jurassic Park, Minions, Zootopia, Inside Out, The Jungle Book, Coco, Cars 3, Moana and Despicable Me 3.

There will be concessions available at each location. Branscum mentioned the possibility of food trucks throughout the summer.

“Potentially some movies will have food trucks available, but it would be one or two at most,” Branscum said. “We will have our regular concession going on.”
