Lifting their voices up

Is there a more beautiful sound than that of children singing?

Probably not. But concert-goers can see (and hear) for themselves on April 15 as Emily Baker directs “We Sing!” by Voices of the Permian Basin, a choir featuring third through eighth graders.

The choir, formerly the MOSC Kids’ Choir, has 90 singers who rehearse weekly and perform two concerts per season. The youth choir is under the direction of Baker and accompanied by pianist LuAnn Lane.

This show, organizers say, will feature a bit of everything from lullabies to prayers and dances. The event is scheduled at 3 p.m. April 15 at the First Presbyterian Church of Midland, 800 W. Texas Ave. Tickets are $15 general admission and students are admitted free.

The event is sponsored by Fred and Chris Newman and the Midland Symphony Guild.

The singers include:

Piper Baker, Abigail Ballard, Elijah Ballard, Allison Barnes, Janyce Benefield, Luke Bobo, Ava Bowen, Alayna Bowen, Alyssa Brindley, Hailey Brunner, Kaitlyn Brunner, Emily Coffman, Callie Cooley, Steven Cooley, Titus Dietsch, Berkley Edwards, Brooklyn Garner, Shreya George, Shweta George, Emory Goldapp, Angelina Gomez, Richard Gomez, Isaac Harper, Austin Harris, Natalie Harris, Haley Hart, Cali Hernandez, Jazmine Hernandez, Grace Herrera, Anna Hodgkins, Luella James, Brandon Jones, Lila Jones, Evyn Juarez, Melissa Kliewer, Amelie Laws, Sawyer Laws, Kate Lunsford, Maggie McClure, Dalton Meeker, Wyatt Meeker, Ashlyn Moore, Dylan Moore, Logan Moore, Mason Moore, Kennedy Mosely, Sammy Munt, Eden Noyes, Iona Noyes, Nova Noyes, Julianna Orosco, Adelynn Owen, Alexa Pavon, Andrew Perea, Jenna Perea, Lydia Perea, Gracie Petty, Jayclyn Rogers, Avery Scott, Ava Jewel Sellers, Cameron Serrano, Nathan Serrano, Oakley Serrano, Jaci Shana, Lexi Shanan, Abagayle Shipman, Alyssa Shipman, Esther Spiegel, Emilie Vanderford, Tori Villarreal, Gracelyn Weems, Abigail Wells, Ivy Wilson, Tess Wilson, Bailey Wimberly and Riley Wimberly.

The MOSC has also scheduled the final concert of the season with “Celebrating Our Heroes” on May 12. The event will celebrate veterans, active military and first responders. The full orchestra will perform and be joined by the MOSC Chorale and all of the Voice of the Permian Basin youth choir. There will be more than 200 musicians on stage and a color guard and other activities.
