The United Way of Odessa Annual Meeting has been scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 27 at the MCM Grandé Hotel and FunDome, 6201 E. Business 20.
The United Way Board of Directors will present outcomes from 2017, including partner agency allocations, venture grant funding and campaign successes. In addition, awards will be presented to volunteers, businesses and constituents that gave their time and money to the United Way of Odessa in 2017.

CLASSES

The Odessa Police Department is accepting applications for the 25th session of the Citizen’s Police Academy. The 16 week academy begins Feb. 8, and will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday nights.
The program is designed to give the public a working knowledge of the Odessa Police Department. The instruction is comprehensive and covers different divisions each week. The goal is to educate the public about the OPD and to increase the rapport between citizens and police officers.
There is no cost for the classes. The first 40 applications will be accepted for this session.

Simon Youth Foundation, a national non-profit that partners with public school districts to support students at risk of dropping out of high school, is accepting applications for the 2018 SYF Community Scholarship to help a graduating senior living near Midland Park Mall (a Simon property) take the next step on their educational journey.
Any student who will be graduating in the class of 2018 and lives in the designated community surrounding Midland Park Mall is eligible. Applicants can check their eligibility by entering their ZIP code at syf.org/scholarships.
A student will be selected based on a variety of criteria, including financial need, academic performance, leadership skills and participation in school and community activities. Students who are the first in their family to pursue a post-secondary education will also be given close consideration.
The scholarship recipient will receive up to $1,500 toward tuition and other educational expenses at an accredited college, university, vocational or technical school.
Application deadline is Feb. 15, 2018. Recipient will be notified of their award in May 2018.
