The Odessa Police Department has scheduled the 25th session of the Citizen’s Police Academy from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday nights, through May 24.
The 16 week academy is designed to give the public a working knowledge of the Odessa Police Department. The instruction is comprehensive and covers different divisions each week. The goal is to educate the public about the OPD and to increase the rapport between citizens and police officers.

Odessa Fire Rescue is accepting applications for the 2018 Citizens Fire Academy. The 10 week program begins March 6, and will be held from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday nights.
The program is a hands-on opportunity for citizens to become familiar with firefighting apparatus, learn about emergency medical services, vehicle extrication, fire prevention, hazardous materials, technical rescue, fire investigations, as well as receive fire extinguisher and CPR training.

Simon Youth Foundation, a national nonprofit that partners with public school districts to support students at risk of dropping out of high school, is accepting applications for the 2018 SYF Community Scholarship to help a graduating senior living near Midland Park Mall (a Simon property) take the next step on their educational journey.
Any student who will be graduating in the class of 2018 and lives in the designated community surrounding Midland Park Mall is eligible. Applicants can check their eligibility by entering their zip code a

A student will be selected based on a variety of criteria, including financial need, academic performance, leadership skills and participation in school and community activities. Students who are the first in their family to pursue a post-secondary education will also be given close consideration.
The scholarship recipient will receive up to $1,500 toward tuition and other educational expenses at an accredited college, university, vocational or technical school.
