WTC sets public hearings

West Texas Centers has scheduled the last of four public hearings across their 23-county service area to gather input on expanding and enhancing the organization’s Telemedicine Services and the Mental Health Crisis Response System. The meeting will begin at 5:15 p.m. July 22 at Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce Board Room, 215 W. Third St.; enter the southeast door, Big Spring. The hearings are in response to the implementation of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services approval of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission’s Healthcare Transformation and Quality Improvement Program 1115 demonstration waiver, said West Texas Centers Chief Executive Officer Shelley Smith.  Stakeholder feedback will also be utilized in pursuing additional opportunities for housing and crisis grants. The waiver will transform the health care delivery system for low-income Texans and enable better access to quality behavioral health services, improving both individual and system-wide outcomes, Smith said. Community Centers, such as West Texas Centers will assist in assessing the community’s needs and work with local entities, including consumers, advocates and private providers, to plan and implement innovative and effective solutions for addressing behavioral health care needs in the region. As an example, one of those plans is to augment the number of Mobile Crisis Outreach Team members, Smith said.
