Campers and country music fans are expected to pack into Gardendale on May 16 and 17 as the second Texas Thunder rolls in.

Events manager Caitlin DeForest confirmed that The Band Perry, who rose to fame in 2010 with the single “If I Die Young,” will headline the first day of the event. South Carolina’s Lee Brice, who released two albums and penned recent hits including “A Woman Like You” and “Love Like Crazy,” will close out the festival on May 17.

DeForest said promoters are aiming to bring Texas Thunder to greater prominence in the country music scene as they added the nationally known acts to this year’s lineup.

The festival was inaugurated May 17, 2013 at the same location, previously featuring regional acts such as the Casey Donahew Band, Randy Rogers Band and Josh Abbott Band.

At the time, the Odessa Chamber of Commerce told the Odessa American that they hoped the music festival would boost the Permian Basin’s economy. For its inaugural year, however, the festival took on a second purpose in the wake of the disaster in the city of West, as promoters called upon West Texas to help the town of West, Texas, while proceeds went toward disaster relief.

The festival grounds are located at 16853-17099 N. Chinaberry Ave., off of TX-158 in Gardendale. Two-day general admission tickets are available for $65.35, while a one-day ticket goes for $45.35.

Camp sites are available for $110 for both nights, though this is separate from admission, which must also be purchased to attend the shows. Campers can bring their own alcohol, but must keep it on their campsite; outside alcoholic beverages are prohibited within the concert areas of the festival grounds.

Tickets can be purchased at any Odessa or Midland Walgreens location, online at texasthunderfest.com, or by calling 855-362-0535.
