Everything that is old is new again for the Odessa Council for the Arts and Humanities’ Hot Summer Nights (with Cool Music) program.

That’s because to celebrate its 10th year, the organization is filling its line-up with bands that have performed previously for the annual event.

Randy Ham, executive director for the Council for the Arts and Humanities, said a music selection committee and the council’s board members went through old surveys, emails and audience feedback to find out which bands had the biggest draw.

“We wanted to do something to celebrate the fact we’ve been doing this for 10 years,” Ham said.

Hot Summer Nights is an annual event that is put on by the Arts and Humanities Council in conjunction with Main Street Odessa and has musical performances every Friday during the summer. This year’s line-up will include an additional show on June 26, which is a Thursday.

Performances are held at Noel Heritage Park, located at West Fifth Street and Lincoln Avenue, and start at 8 p.m. and last until about 10 p.m.

Ham said if weather becomes an issue, the event will move Deaderick Auditorium at Odessa College.

Odessa Public Information Coordinator Andrea Goodson said while city personnel help set up the area, credit for the success of the event goes to the council and Main Street Odessa.

“It’s because the city believes it’s a good event for our citizens,” Goodson said about why the city continues to support the event.

Along with keeping it free to the public, something the event already is, Goodson said the only request city officials have of Hot Summer Nights is to continue having it grow.

“They’ve come a long way from when they started 10 years ago,” Goodson said.

Ham, who has taken over as executive director for Carla Bryant, said he is not nervous about spearheading the event because he has served as a board member for the Arts and humanities Council before.

In order to get more people aware of the event, Ham has set up a social media pages for the organization, hoping the move will draw more people out to future events.

“Follow us on Twitter,” Ham said. “If there is inclement weather, we will be on social media to notify people of any changes.”
