WOLFFORTH The Permian baseball team is now on the brink of elimination from playoff contention after falling 8-1 to Wolfforth Frenship Wednesday night in District 2-6A play.

The game was played Wednesday after weather postponed the originally scheduled game on Tuesday.

The Panthers (17-16 overall, 6-8 district) fell behind early, trailing 4-0 after two innings and 7-0 after three innings.

Austin Phillips pitched a complete game for the Tigers (19-10, 8-6), allowing just one run on four hits and striking out five to help Frenship clinch a playoff spot.

Manny Guerrero drove in the only run for Permian with an RBI single in the fifth.

The Panthers would officially be eliminated if Midland Lee beats Amarillo Tascosa Thursday afternoon.
