EL PASO The Permian softball team saw its season come to an end Saturday in an 11-8 defeat to El Paso Montwood in the Class 6A bi-district round.

The Lady Panthers (19-12-2) got off to a good start, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning and three more in the second to take a 6-4 lead.

The Lady Rams (25-7) were able to chip away at the lead and eventually tied the game up at 7 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

That set the stage for Danielle Gomez, who broke the deadlock with a grand slam and gave Montwood the lead for good.

It was the second straight game that Gomez had recorded a grand slam.

Mikayla Martinez hit a home run in the top of the seventh inning, but the Lady Panthers were unable to complete the rally.

Montwood advances to face Euless Trinity next week in the area round of the playoffs.
