A 6-year-old boy that was involved in a fatal crash last month in north Odessa has died from his injuries, an Odessa Police Department release stated.

Matias Tovar was pronounced dead by medical personal Thursday morning at Midland Memorial Hospital.

Two-year-old Mateo Tovar, the younger brother of Matias Tovar, was released back to his family after being in the hospital.

The fatal crash happened at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 30 near the intersection of 87th Street and Andrews Highway that killed 36-year-old Maylin Gabriela Melo Perez of Odessa, who was the mother of the two boys.

Perez, 36, was driving a silver Toyota 4Runner west on 87th Street with her sons when she ran a stop sign and failed to yield the right of way, the release stated.

Martina Nabarrete Banuelos, 54, was driving a black H2 Hummer north on Andrews Highway when the Hummer collided with the 4Runner. Perez was pronounced dead at the scene and next of kin were notified.

Banuelos was transported to MCH with non-life-threatening injuries.
