An 80-year-old man was killed in a head-on collision Thursday at the intersection of 42nd Street and Preston Smith Road, Odessa police reported.

Odessa Police Department Spokesman Steve LeSueur said officers were called about the crash at about 2 p.m. Thursday, where they found a Ford Mustang had collided into a white van.

Investigation revealed that the white van had the right-of-way and was traveling west on 42nd Street, and the driver of the Mustang had not yielded while traveling east on 42nd Street and attempting to turn left, causing the van to collide into the Mustang, LeSueur said.

The driver of the Mustang was identified as a 79-year-old Jean Ann Emmons of California. She was taken to Medical Center Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger of the mustang was identified as 80-year-old Ronald Parks of Odessa. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the van was identified as Angelo Rodriguez, 33, of Odessa. He was uninjured, an OPD news release stated.

LeSueur said no one has been charged at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Officers were expected to be on scene for several hours and drivers traveling west on 42nd Street were advised to use alternative routes.
