Odessa police began searching Friday for a 32-year-old sex offender who failed to register with local law enforcement after his June 6 release from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Police describe Thomas Jefferson Boykin as 5 feet 7 inches tall with black hair, hazel eyes and a shaved head. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt and carrying a black backpack, police said.

Judge Carol Gregg issued an arrest warrant Friday for “failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements” — a third-degree felony, police said.

Boykin was convicted of “indecency with a child sexual contact” with an 8-year-old who Boykin didn’t know.
